• Act honestly and with integrity
• Work together for the benefit of the Shed, not personal agendas
• Respect privacy and keep personal information confidential
Respectful Behaviour
All members are expected to:
• Be courteous to other members, volunteers, and the public
• Listen to others and allow everyone a chance to speak
• Offer feedback respectfully and constructively
• Recognize and appreciate each other’s contributions
• Speak up if they see behaviour that does not follow this Code
The Shed will not tolerate:
• Bullying, harassment, or discrimination
• Abuse, threats, or violence
• Any behaviour that puts others at risk or undermines the Shed community
Safety and Responsibility
Safety is everyone’s responsibility. Members agree to:
• Use tools and equipment safely and as instructed
• Keep workspaces clean and free of hazards
• Report unsafe conditions or damaged equipment immediately
• Follow all Shed safety guidelines and procedures
Participation may be limited if safety cannot be reasonably ensured.
Integrity and Accountability
Members will:
• Act in the best interest of the Shed at all times
• Avoid conflicts of interest or personal gain from Shed activities
• Not seek or accept special favours or advantages
• Follow all Shed policies, guidelines, and bylaws
Inclusion and Access
The Shed is open and welcoming. We do not discriminate based on race, age, disability, religion, or background.
Some participation limits may apply for safety reasons or where additional support is required.
Confidentiality
Members must respect the privacy of others and:
• Keep personal or sensitive information confidential
• Not share information without permission
Reporting Concerns
Members are encouraged to raise concerns about behaviour that does not align with this Code.
Concerns can be brought to a Board member or designated representative.
Breach of Code – How Issues Are Handled
The Board will respond to concerns in a fair, timely, and respectful manner.
Actions will depend on the seriousness of the situation and may include:
Minor Concerns
• Informal conversation or reminder
• Verbal or written warning
• Request for apology or corrective action
More Serious Concerns
• Formal meeting with the Board
• Written record of the incident
• Conditions placed on participation
Serious or Repeated Breaches
• Suspension or termination of membership
All decisions will be made in good faith, with the goal of maintaining a safe and respectful Shed environment.
