Dog Houses for Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS)

Completion expected September 2026

Some projects carry a shared sense of care from the very beginning.

The Men’s Shed has been commissioned to build six insulated dog houses for the Second Chance Animal Rescue Society (SCARS), based here in Morinville. It’s an organization deeply supported by the local community and across the greater Edmonton area, known for the work they do in caring for and rehoming animals.

This project brings together clear purpose and steady effort.

SCARS has provided funding for materials along with a preferred design, ensuring the finished houses meet the needs of the animals they serve. From there, the Men’s Shed is sourcing materials, building each unit, and contributing the labour and workshop space required to bring them to completion.

At least a dozen members are involved across different stages of the build—cutting, assembling, insulating, and finishing—each contributing in their own way. It’s a larger-scale project that reflects both the capacity of the Shed and the willingness of members to support something that matters to many.

With completion expected by September 2026, these dog houses will soon provide durable, insulated shelter—practical structures built with care, for animals in transition.

Projects like this extend the reach of the Shed beyond the workshop, supporting organizations that quietly do important work in the community.
