Bird Houses for Namao Museum
Some projects begin with a vision—not just for function, but for how a place feels.
In June 2025, when curators from the Namao Museum approached the Men’s Shed, they were looking for a way to enhance the exterior of the museum grounds. The idea of adding handcrafted birdhouses took shape through a conversation between museum board members and Shed members, where design and purpose came together.
From there, the build was straightforward and collaborative.

Using donated materials, the Men’s Shed designed and constructed two custom birdhouses, providing all the labour, tools, and workshop space needed to complete the project. As with many Shed builds, it was a shared effort—practical work paired with easy conversation and a steady pace.
Since being installed, the birdhouses have settled naturally into their surroundings—and, more importantly, have already been put to use. The birds seem to approve.
Completed in June 2025, this project is a small but meaningful contribution to a local space that holds history and community significance.
The design has also carried beyond the museum grounds. Additional birdhouses have been built and sold to the public through community events, with more available for individual purchase. Custom sizes, colours, and styles can also be made to suit different spaces.

If you’d like to support the Men’s Shed and the work we do in the community, many of our handcrafted items are available for purchase through current inventory or custom order.
